I'm trying to update more on my non-fandomy journals/etc. We'll see how that goes. Right now I can't seem to stop watching Midsomer Murders. But I've also been reading and I'm quite in love with Nnedi Okorafor's writing. I've read three of her books and I've loved all of them. I cannot wait to read the fourth.

I haven't been writing, but November's coming up, so soon enough I'll be working nanowrimo. I am both nervous and excited. I have a plot, characters (though not all named yet) and ideas where I want it to go, but obviously I can't start writing for another month. Sigh!

Just an update.

My total words on this novel thing: 102,051

I will be honest, I wish I was done with it. I have other things I'd like to write. Sadly, I'm just going to keep plugging away because I'm tired of leaving things unfinished.

In other news, I am so sad that Sarah Jane died and I totally need a SJS icon now.

February: 14,754 words

Not bad. 750words.com is pretty amazing. And if I make it through every day of February, I'm going to lave them some nice feedback.

Total: 26,194 words

That's in 19 days, in case you were wondering. Sometimes it's hard to get stuff out, but using 750 Words helps a lot, because I'm doing February challenge. Which means I need to write at least 750 words for the whole month. Somehow, that keeps me going.

Today, though, I introduced a bit of magic into the story, while listening to the Never Let Me Go soundtrack. Which apparently was a bad idea because I'm totally creeped out now. Who knew? I had to turn on something else just so I wouldn't feel totally freaked out. Hilarious, it's not dark in my apartment and I know there are other people out there, because I was just emailing my best friend.

Not that that stops me from going 'ahhhh' inside. Apparently electronica is the way to go, though. Good job unfreaking me out, music.

I really need to update here. Especially now that I'm doing something related to what I want in life. Which is odd, but there you go. I used to want to be a biologist (I wanted to be Agent Scully at some point), but science and I didn't mix (not without trying, but probably because high school science was ... well, it wasn't really a problem with me, but moreso my school) and I ended up an English major in college (SIGH). If I had to do it over again, I'd probably major in political science, though I should've majored in Religious Studies since I got the best grades in those classes (and now I am an atheist, WHO KNEW?). Anyway, the point is that I found my calling as a librarian -- a public librarian.

And that's probably what I'll do for the rest of my life. But it's not what I really want to do, which is write novels. And that's what I'm sort of doing. I discovered a site called 750 Words which basically is a site that tells you, in real time, how many words you've written as you write each day. The goal is to write 750 words (about 3 pages), every day. I've been writing every day, at least 750 words, for 14 days. So, here are my totals:

Total: 20,632 words
Feb: 2,900 words
Jan: 17,732 words

No so bad, I think. I haven't been updating here, but I've been doing a lot of stuff. Including seeing several movies (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and Nowhere Boy), hung out with friends, gone to two shows (Bo Burnham and Jonsi) and met an author or two (Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier). So, you know, I've been keeping busy. :D

I can't wait to start my nano. I keep thinking about it, but not too much because I don't really have a good place to write down ideas. I'm also tearing through the books I currently have out from the library, mostly because I don't know how much time I'll have to read once I get started on the nano. Oh, well.

In other news, when I'm not reading (or working), I can't seem to stop watching SG-1. I got all the way through SGA, and now I've gone back to SG-1. I'm already at season four. I can hear you laughing, you know. :P OH WELL. I love it, what can I say? ANYWAY, for the curious, here's what I have checked out.

Adventureland
Blindsight / Watts, Peter
Death from the skies! : these are the ways the world will end-- / Plait, Philip C
Death in the air / Peacock, Shane
Blue Bloods : keys to the Repository / De la Cruz, Melissa
Monsters of men / Ness, Patrick,
Love drugged / Klise, James

My other novel attempts have totally failed this year, but I'm going to try nanowrimo again. I completed last year, after only one previous try (in 2002). I'll try to get this journal updated with my progress. I did 52,000 words last year on a steampunk YA. This year I'm going to try for vampires (the kind that kill you, not love you).

Hopefully I can do around 2,000 words a day, but I doubt. At least I'll hopefully have fun trying.
